Is the Tower of London worth it?
Yes, for first-timers and history lovers. One ticket covers the Crown Jewels, the White Tower and the Medieval Palace. A Beefeater tour is included too.
You might skip the long combos if you only have a short time. A coach day of 4 to 5.5 hours fills most of your day. The plain ticket lets you go at your own pace.
Which Tower of London ticket should you book?
Book the plain entry ticket unless you want a guide. It starts from €45 and is sold by Historic Royal Palaces. The Beefeater tours inside are free with it.
The other tickets add something. Pick the one whose extra you really want.
| Option | From | Length | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry with the Crown Jewels | €45 | 1-day ticket | Nothing extra; Beefeater tours included |
| Guided visit with a Thames cruise | €79 | 1.5–7 hours | A guide and a 30-minute cruise |
| Tower and City walk | €1 | 2.5 hours | A City walk; no entry |
| Crown Jewels tour with a river cruise | €142 | 4 hours | Coach, guide, St Paul's, cruise |
| Bus and Tower entry | €80 | 1–3 days | Bus ticket and a one-way boat |
| Crown Jewels, St Paul's, cruise and Eye | €238 | 5.5 hours | Coach, guide, St Paul's, cruise, Eye |
| Semi-private tour with a cruise | €119 | 1.5 hours | Group of up to 10 and a cruise |
Tower of London tours with a guide
Take a guided tour if you like stories told in person. The guided visit and the semi-private tour both add a 30-minute Thames cruise ticket.
Both listings say they do not suit wheelchair users or people with mobility problems. The guide does not come into the Crown Jewels with you.

What tickets include and what they do not
Every entry ticket includes the Crown Jewels. The Tower's own site says the Jewels are part of palace entry.
The entry ticket here also covers the exhibitions, the Beefeater tours and children's trails. It does not include an audio guide, food or skip-the-line entry.
Included
From the entry ticket listing:
- Entry to the Tower and its exhibitions
- The Crown Jewels
- Public Beefeater tours
- Children's activity trails
- Printed maps and free Wi-Fi
Not included
Also from the listing:
- Audio guide
- Food and drinks
- Skip-the-line entry
What to see inside and what to do first
See the Crown Jewels first, then join a Beefeater tour. The Tower's site suggests about one hour for the Jewels.
After that, explore at your own pace. The entry listing names these sights:
- The Crown Jewels of the British monarchy
- The White Tower, with royal armour
- The Medieval Palace and the Line of Kings
- The ravens that live at the Tower
The Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) tours
Beefeater tours are free with your ticket. The Yeoman Warders, also called Beefeaters, lead them. They tell the Tower's grisly tales.
Last tour times can change. Check the Tower's own site or ask at the entrance for today's times.
How long to allow and the best time to go
Allow at least one hour for the Crown Jewels alone, says the Tower's site. Add time for the White Tower, the walls and a Beefeater tour.
In summer the Tower opens 9am to 5:30pm (last entry 4:30pm). Winter hours are shorter; check the Tower's site for your date.
Go early in the day if you can. The entry ticket lasts all day, so you can take your time.
Tower Bridge tickets: how it fits the same day
Tower Bridge is a separate sight with its own ticket. None of our picks includes it. Walking across the bridge is free.
The ticket covers the glass-floor walkways, 42 metres above the Thames, and the Victorian Engine Rooms. Tower Bridge lists opening hours of 9:30am to 6pm, with last entry at 5pm.
It sits right next to the Tower, so you can do both in one day. Check its own site for the current price.
Can you buy tickets at the gate or on the day?
Book ahead to be sure of a time slot. The Tower sells timed tickets on its own site, and the entry ticket here is for one set day.
Check the Tower's own site for gate sales and online prices before you go.
Booking here gives you free cancellation. That helps if your plans change.
Discounts and 2 for 1 tickets: what is real
National Rail's Days Out Guide lists a 2FOR1 offer at the Tower of London. You need a valid National Rail train ticket; read the terms on its page.
Children under 5 go free, says the Tower's site. A child ticket (5 to 15) is £18.50. Members of Historic Royal Palaces get in free.
Bus and cruise bundles are not discounts. They add other things to the same entry ticket.
Getting there, access and tips for families
The Tower is at London EC3N 4AB, on the north bank of the Thames. Boats stop at Tower Pier, so a river Thames cruise from Westminster can take you there.
If you need step-free routes, check the Tower's own access page before you go.
For kids, the entry ticket includes activity trails. To stay nearby, see where to stay in London.
Before you book the Tower
Book a slot
The Tower sells timed tickets. Book your day and time before you go, above all in school holidays.
Jewels first
Head to the Crown Jewels early. Then join a free Beefeater tour.
Know what is outside only
The City walk does not go into the Tower. Buy an entry ticket if you want to see inside.
Check the cancellation
All seven picks show free cancellation on GetYourGuide. Check the exact time limit on each listing.
